John Woo Shields Us from the Rain of Swords!

John Woo is in the midst of a career renessiance. Fresh off his sweeping historical epic, Red Cliff, he is already well into production of his next project, Jianyu Jianghu. It's expected that the American title will be something along the lines of Rain of Swords. The wuxia style film will feature Michelle Yeoh(Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as a retired assassin who's forced back into the game when her old running mates come seeking her out. They're on the hunt for the remains of a legendary Buddhist monk known as the Bodhidharma, which she is attempting to restore to it's rightful place.

I pretty much love anything Michelle Yeoh is a part of. To me, and apparently Rotten Tomatoes as well, she's the best female action star ever. Period. The lady's got serious chops. She can even make horrible films like The Mummy: Curse of the Dragon Emperor watchable.

Obviously, the style of film Woo is producing here will have a similar feel to Crouching Tiger, which is a style Yeoh excels at. Although I'm not as certain whether it fits Woo's directing style. Then again I didn't think he'd be able to handle Red Cliff, either, and he proved me to be a blithering idiot.

The first shots from Rain of Swords are below. Take a look and let us know what you think!
