The 4th installment of the revered sci-fi franchise finally shoots us into the war we've been waiting all these years to see. Some would call it a disappointment, but I prefer to be optimistic and call it just the first step in what should be a fascinating trilogy. The Director's Cut features 3 additional minutes not seen in theatres(ooooohhh!!), which will give you more time to listen to Christian Bale sound like he's been smokin' road flares or gargling sand.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
The sequel to 2006's hit film won me over eventually. No, it's not particularly good but I did see it twice in theatres so I must've liked something. Not sure what that was...
Oh yeah! Truthfully, this isn't quite as fun as the original. Ben Stiller's routine has worn thin this time around, and guys like Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan are barely a factor, but Amy Adams is the spark that makes this film work. It's still a good family film that has enough going on to keep any kid entertained.
Into the Storm
Brendan Gleason(In Bruges, 28 Days Later) puts in a tour de force performance as Winston Churchill, mere days before he's set to launch his country into WWII. Perfect for history buffs, or fans of deep, complex dramas.
Paper Heart
One of those movies that grew on me the more I thought about it. Paper Heart is part documentary, part farcical comedy involving the budding relationship between comedianne Charlyne Yi and actor Michael Cera. The lines of reality are constantly blurred so it's impossible to tell what's true, but the emotions expressed are always authentic. Featuring guest appearances by Martin Starr and Seth Rogen.
Gremlins
Be honest. You were in love with Phoebe Cates just as much as I was, and you either secretly wanted to be Zach Galligan or you loathed him and his brillo pad haircut. Whatever side of the aisle you land on, Gremlins has now finally hit Blu-Ray so that you can enjoy the lovely Mrs. Cates in all her resplendent glory.
The Frog Prince
Huh? Is this a ripoff or something? This bears a striking resemblance to Disney's The Princess and the Frog, which is due out in a couple weeks. African-American princess...a dopey looking frog. And there seems to be absolutely no information available on who made the damn thing. I smell copyright infringement on the horizon.
