We've talked about Machete quite a bit here, for obvious reasons. Machete began as a fake trailer running through Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse double-feature, starring Danny Trejo as a knife wielding Mexican ex-Federale who gets betrayed by the government and seeks bloody vengeance. We've known the primary cast for awhile: Trejo, Lindsay Lohan, Robert Deniro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, and a host of others who managed to be high enough on the cool-o-meter to be a part of this. I mean seriously, that cast is ridiculous, especially for what is clearly going to be a niche project. Just as in Grindhouse, a number of "fake" trailers will be a part of the presentation, the main one starring Rose McGowan.
The only thing we didn't know was when it would be released. With 20th Century Fox buying the rights to the film, they've decided on a September 3rd release date. Labor Day weekend. Typically a slow movie week, but not a lot of competition either. It could work. I dont' care when it comes out, I'm gonna be first in line to see it.
