* Over the weekend came the shocking news that David Fincher(Fight Club) would be helming a big screen version of Jules Verne's classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This is the same project that once had McG attached, but I guess they look at his resume and decided it was better to sink him now rather than have him sink them later. Now comes the word that Fox is also adapting the same story, but through Ridley and Tony Scott's production house. Rumors are that Timur Bekmambetov(Night Watch, Wanted) is to direct. A script is already in place, written by Travis Beacham(Clash of the Titans).
* Luke Skywalker, sometimes known as Mark Hamill, will be adapting his 1996 comic The Black Pearl for the big screen. The story involves Luther Drake, a regular guy who rescues a woman from harm and is then pressured by the media to become a costumed vigilante. Initially written to be a big budget film, Hamill backed out of that deal and turned it into a 5-issue comic book series. The budget for this version is said to be around $7M.
*Paul Dano(There Will Be Blood), Keith Carradine(Deadwood), and Clancy Brown(A Nightmare on Elm Street) have joined the cast of Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens. They add to a pretty impressive cast that features Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde. The story is about a group of cowboys who must team up with Native Americans to battle against an invading alien army.
