1. Iron Man 2
- $53M/$212M While $53M is nothing to sneeze at, Iron Man 2 still dropped nearly 60% from last week, a pretty hefty tumble for what is expected to be the biggest film of the year. That's a bigger drop than 2008's Iron Man had, although it's debut weekend was much smaller.
2. Robin Hood
- $37.1M I don't think anybody thought Robin Hood's arrow could pierce Iron Man's armor, but that's still a pretty paltry opening weekend. The $200M epic fared better globally, dominating to the tune of $74M for a total gross of $111M.
3. Letters to Juliet
- $13.8M Benefitting as a counter to the big explosions and bigger muscles of it's competition, Letters to Juliet opened with a respectable $13.8M, not bad considering it had a similarly themed Just Wright that opened the exact same weekend. Is it me, or does this entire week's worth of numbers seem small?
4. Just Wright
- $8.5M It's never a good idea to release two romantic comedies head to head because one is going to get trounced. In this case, it was the Queen Latifah/Common led Just Wright, which did it's best to highight Latifah's charms to push it to success. Not that they had much choice since Common is a relative unknown commodity as an actor, and certainly untested as a leading man.
5. How to Train Your Dragon
- $5.12M/$208M 6. A Nightmare on Elm Street
- $4.7M/$56.1M 7. Date Night
- $4M/$86.7M I can't explain it, but I smile every time I see this movie on the charts. Maybe I liked it more than I thought?
8. The Back-Up Plan
- $2.46M/$34.2M On the other hand....
9. Furry Vengeance
- $2.3M/$15.1M If Hollywood could ever be sued on waste and abuse charges, Furry Vengeance is going to be exhibit A for the prosecution. Just sayin'.
10. Clash of the Titans
