BleedingCool.net has learned that Karl Urban, who most will recognize as "Bones" McCoy in JJ Abrams' Star Trek, has been offered the role ofJudge Dredd in the upcoming action flick by DNA Films. Not that we'll be seeing much of Urban's grill, as Judge Dredd doesn't remove his helmet. Ever. And since this version of Dredd is sticking closer to the source material, it's expected that the film will stick to that.
The original Judge Dredd was released in 1995 and starred Sylvester Stallone in a memorable, if heavily panned performance. It was a financial success, however, earning over $113M over the course of its run.
No director has been named for the project as of yet. The script is being handled by Alex Garland, with some overseeing by main Judge Dredd writer, John Wagner.
