Mulligan will not join Finchers The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Thanks to my homie Tim Gordon for drawing my attention to this. I had the alert in my inbox and completely missed it. The search for someone to play the challenging role of hard edged computer hacker, Lisbeth Salander, in David Fincher's remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has encompassed at least a dozen of Hollywood's young starlets. The frontrunner for months has been Carey Mulligan(An Education), but now it looks as if we can take her name off the list.

Entertainment Weekly spoke to the fast rising actress, and she had this to say...

“I’m not, I’m afraid,” she told EW yesterday. “I can officially quash that rumor once and for all. It’s not going to be me. But I’m excited to see it. I love the books and I think it will be great.”

Well there goes my hope for the remake. Mulligan would've been the perfect choice. Much like Noomi Rapace, the actress portraying Lisbeth in the Swedish films, she is a beautiful young woman who would undergo a pretty massive transformation to take on her goth appearance. I desperately wanted to see that happen. Unfortunately it looks like we'll have to settle for seeing Mulligan in Wall Street 2 in a few weeks.

The leading contenders now remaing Ellen Page(Juno), Mia Wasikowska(Alice in Wonderland), Emily Browning(The Uninvited), and Rooney Mara(The Social Network).
