But that was 5 years ago, and Gibson hardly wanted to take a step backwards in his career.
My, how things have changed. Since that time, Gibson has been dropped by his talent agency for his seeming inability to curtail his racist and sexist remarks. His last big film, Edge of Darkness, was complete darkness to most folks since nobody saw it. That Viking flick he was going to make with Leondardo Dicaprio? Down the drain. Oh, and the film that probably could've revived his career, Jodie Foster's dark comedy The Beaver, is on indefinite hold thanks to his shenanigans. So what's there left to do?
Apparently Gibson's opinion on Lethal Weapon 5 has changed, and he is again in talks with producer Joel Silver to reprise his role as wildman cop Martin Riggs. At least that's according to an inside source writing for Type A Films. The question I have isn't so much about whethr or not LW5 could help Gibson bounce back. I have no doubt that it would. It's his most popular role, and people are quick to forget your past screw ups as long as you're entertaining. The question I have is whether or not the cast would return given some of Gibson's statements. Would Danny Glover even want to work with Gibson now after his racist remarks?
