Sequel to Jumper in the works?

2008's Jumper is one of those movies with an extremely cool concept with a ton of potential that never lived up to it thanks to a barebones plot and piss poor casting. The sci-fi actioner starred Hayden Christiansen(Shattered Glass) as one of a super powered group of people who can teleport, or "jump", anywhere they can envision. Samuel L. Jackson was a "Paladin", who's sole mission is to kill all jumpers. Great idea, and the setup was definitely there for a bunch of a sequels. It went on to gross over $220M worldwide, so a sequel isn't completely out of the question.

While talking to MTV about his new film, Takers, Christiansen certainly hinted at the possibility of a sequel to Jumper somewhere down the line.

"We're talking about it right now actually," he said. Where could the story go? "Hopefully somewhere a little darker. I think there's a lot you can do with it. It was sort of set up in a way it's gonna be mother hunting son and possibly even maybe sister hunting brother. We're talking about it, trying to figure it out."

Doug Lima, who directed Jumper, is always a busy guy, but he's expressed interested in a sequel before. Whether or not it happens remains to be seen. For me, Jumper sits side-by-side with the 2009 Dakota Fanning sci-fi film, Push, that had genuine franchise potential but squandered it.
