I'm not going to go as in depth on this story as some other sites because, to me, it doesn't matter how the film is shot. It could be shot on wooden blocks using a watermelon lens as long as it's a good story. But we have written a little about the possibility of Christopher Nolan shooting The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX before, so might as well follow it up.
Collider is reporting that the decision has been made and that Nolan will indeed shoot his much anticipated Batman film entirely in IMAX format. He shot a few of The Dark Knight's most important scenes using it, but the bulk and sound of the cameras has been a deterrent to a lot of filmmakers from using it for a whole movie. One of the reasons Nolan may have changed his mind? IMAX might've finally figured out that size really does matter....
I’m hearing that Nolan will try and shoot The Dark Knight Rises totally in IMAX. I’ve heard that IMAX has been quietly developing a smaller, less intrusive camera that will be able to handle dialogue scenes. If the camera is finished in time, expect Nolan to use it.
That's coming from Collider's source, so take it with a grain of salt until there's some sort of confirmation from Warner Brothers or Nolan himself. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. We'll find out when they're good and ready to tell us.
