I'm not the anime fanatic that I used to be, but every now and then something catches my eye. Such as the latest from Makoto Shinkai, who's 2002 film Voices of a Distant Star, is considered by many(myself included) to be one of the best animes of the decade. His latest is Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, and despite the excrutiatingly long title, already looks like another possible gem. Check out the teaser trailer below followed by a brief synopsis, and keep an eye out for it when it hits DVD shelves probably some time late next year. It's not set to be released in Japan until May 2011.
The film centers on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. However, she embarks on a journey of adventure to meet a boy again, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world, as well as loss.
