I have no idea who Demi Lovato is. Apparently she's one of those Disney pop princess bubblegum starlet people? Hangs around those Jonas Brother-types or something? It's part of the reason why I didn't bother writing about it when news broke that she was up for a role in The Avengers. Well, it started out that she was in talks, and then almost immediately jumped to "She's in the movie!". That was all quickly debunked, for no other reason than the fact that Lovato is currently in some sort of treatment facility for...*ahem*..."emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time."
The chick is like 18 and she's already well on the path to Lohan-ville. So those rumors were debunked by both Marvel and Lovato's suppliers...I mean Lovato's camp, but apparently Marvel is indeed looking for someone to add more of a feminine touch to the superhero frathouse. Here's what The Hollywood Reporter had to say about it....
Sources say Marvel is looking for another actress to, um, (un)beef up the lineup, although in typical Marvel secretive fashion, the role is not being revealed. (Anyone want to take bets it’s the Wasp?)
The Wasp speculation is all THR, not me, but it does make perfect sense. Janet van Dyne was one of the original Avengers and would fit in best with the current line-up. Right now the only female on the roster is the Russian superspy, Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson).
A couple of actresses have been rumored to be up for the role of The Wasp already, in particular Morena Macarrin, who's worked with Joss Whedon in the past on Serenity. Attack of the Show co-host Olivia Munn was also rumored, but she ended up with a teensy tiny part in Iron Man 2 as reporter Chess Roberts.
I've always found The Wasp to be a boring character. I'd much rather it be someone like Ms. Marvel or the Scarlet Witch, much stronger female personalities with just as rich a history as part of the team.
