But the idea of a Justice League film never went away, with some rumors that casting was quietly taking place behind the scenes. Nothing was ever confirmed, but in an LA Times profile of Warner Brothers exec Jeff Rubinov, there's a curious mention of the film which indicates it could be headed our way sooner than anybody thought...
He’s then aiming to release new “Batman” and “Superman” films in 2012 and “Justice League,” a teaming of DC’s top heroes, in 2013.
I don't see it happening for a number of reasons, but the fact it was printed by a reputable source like the LA Times means it can't be discounted. First of all, you simply can't have a Justice League movie without Christian Bale, and he's been pretty adamant about not ever donning the cape and cowl of the dark knight ever again after The Dark Knight Rises. The George Miller film had intended on using totally different actors to play the heroes, which would've been a terrible mistake, and would have made them look inferior to Marvel immediately. I have no doubt that Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds could be convinced to reprise their roles for the film, but both of their movies need to strike a chord with fans first before spinoffs are considered. And then there's the rest of the cast. There are already plans for a Flash film, possibly Aquaman. These have to be developed as well. 2013 just doesn't seem possible to me. I still think we'll see a Justice League movie happen, it's just going to be awhile, and will depend largely on Green Lantern and Superman's box office muscle.
