Martin Scorsese's first 3D film, the children's adventure Hugo Cabret, isn't due out for another eight months, but everything we've seen so far has made it look and sound like one epic fantasy. The film is based on Brian Selznick's 2007 novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, about a young orphan who lives a hidden life in the walls of a Paris train station. He gets caught up in a mystical adventure involving a toy shop owner, a strange automaton, and an eccentric girl.
This being Scorsese, of course he's nailed down a very impressive young cast to fill out the ranks: Chloe Moretz, Asa Butterfield, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lee, Emily Mortimer, Jude Law, Michael Stuhlbarg, Ray Winstone, Frances de la Tour and Richard Griffiths are all on board. If you can believe it, there's one name that's been completely hidden until now, and it's without a doubt the biggest name of all.
A pair of brand new photos released by Le Parisien reveal that none other than Johnny Depp is making a cameo in the film. In the black and white image, he's seen in the background, portraying M. Rouleau, an abstract painter who assists the children in their adventure. In the other pic, we get a shot of the crew, one of them holding the automaton that plays an integral part in the story. You can see both images for yourself below. So are you interested in Martin Scorsese's first 3D work? Or do you want him to go back to the gritty stuff we're used to?
