Those people who were a little dismayed at Darren Aronofsky stepping down from directing The Wolverine may have something to smile about now. Vulture is reporting that Aronofsky has turned his attention to a long gestating sci-fi script by Jeff Welch titled Human Nature, and that George Clooney is interested in starring.
The script has been sitting around the Warner Brothers office for some 15 years, and now superstar producer Akiva Goldsman is figuring out a potential budget for it. If he signs, Clooney would star as a man cryogenically frozen who wakes up years later in a world where humans have become the pets of another species.
One thing about Aronofsky is that he's always managed to pull some epic performances out of his stars, regardless of the material. Mickey Rourke, Hugh Jackman, Natalie Portman, all arguably have done their best stuff in his films. Could Clooney be next?
