There's no better way to have your superstar status confirmed right now than to be cast in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, so for Joel Edgerton it's time to start demanding fatter paychecks. After being rumored for the role of womanizing racist douche Tom Buchanan in the film, Edgerton is now confirmed. He and Luke Evans(Clash of the Titans) were the last two competing for the part, and I still think Edgerton's not right for it.
This caps off what has been the busiest year in the Aussie actor's career. He gained serious notoriety last year leading the critically acclaimed Animal Kingdom; he'll be starring opposite Mary Elizabeth Winstead in The Thing remake; his MMA drama, Warrior, is picking up steam before it releases in October; and he's got a rom-com opposite Jennifer Garner. Guh. Oh, and let's not forget that whole Kill Bin Laden deal. Dude is riding an insane hot streak.
The Great Gatsby's cast is nearly complete now. Leonardo DiCaprio is mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby; Tobey Maguire is Nick Carraway; Carey Mulligan is Daisy Buchanan, the socialite love interest of Gatsby and Tom Buchanan's wife; Isla Fisher is Myrtle Wilson, Tom's crazy mistress; and Elizabeth Debicki is gossipy tennis pro, Jordan Baker.
