Sin Nombre director Cary Fukunaga to helm No Blood, No Guts, No Glory

How awesome is that title? No Blood, No Guts, No Glory. It brings back thoughts of bad 1980s martial arts flicks starring Don "The Dragon" Wilson, but in this case it's something entirely different: a Civil War era heist film. Count me in. With two top notch directorial efforts under his belt, Cary Fukunaga(Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre) has signed on to helm the film based on a 2009 Black List script by Chase Palmer.

Fukunaga will pen a new draft of the script alongside Palmer, but the story sounds like it was made for the big screen. It's a fictionalized account of the true events surrounding the Great Locomotive Chase, when Union soldiers stole a train and proceeded to do as much damage as possible to the Western & Atlantic Railroad on their way up to Chattanooga, TN. This won't be the first time the event(also known as Andrews' Raid) has been brought to the screen. Buster Keaton used it as the basis for his classic 1926 film, The General. Disney's 1956 film The Great Locomotive Chase is also based on the raid.

If I needed another reason to have Fukunaga at the top of my filmmakers to watch, this just sealed it. Both of his movies have been wildly different from eachother, and yet this one is miles away from both. I  thought Jane Eyre was pissed on pretty unfairly by a lot of critics, and Sin Nombre, while excellent and well respected, didn't get the attention it truly deserved. Maybe this film will be the one that puts Fukunaga squarely on the map.
