Tom Wilkinson in talks to saddle up with Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger

My favorite fun fact about The Lone Ranger has always been that one of his descendants was The Green Hornet. The Lone Ranger's first name as unknown, but his last name is Reid. Britt Reid aka the Green Hornet is the son of the Ranger's nephew. So in a way it makes since that Tom Wilkinson, who played the father of the Hornet in Seth Rogen's film, is also in consideration to join Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger

Variety notes that Wilkinson is in early talks right now for a role as a railroad tycoon. He'll be joining Johnny Depp as Tonto, given an increased emphasis in this version of the story. Armie Hammer(The Social Network) is the masked Lone Ranger. The rest of the Pirates of the Caribbean Crew is piecing this thing together. Along with Verbinski are Pirates vets Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot penning the script, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

It'd be cool if they could play up the Ranger/Hornet connection in some way, like they did in the Green Hornet comic book, but it's doubtful. The film is due to open next year on December 21st.
