Holt McCallany just looks like a tough as nails dude. He has the face of some old school boxer, which came in handy on his cancelled FX series, Lights Out. The Irish born actor was the deadly right hand man to Jason Patric in The Losers, and he recently signed on to play a crooked cop in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming action flick directed by Walter Hill. Now McCallany will get a shot to enforce his own brand of violent justice yet again, as Deadline reports he's joined the cast of mob flick, Gangster Squad.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer(Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less), the film is based on a series of LA Times articles about a special team of cops in the 1940s with the purpose of stopping the influx of east coast mobsters into Los Angeles. Sean Penn will star as mob leader Mickey Cohen, with McCallany as his chief enforcer and bodyguard. Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin lead the forces against Cohen, with Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Bryan Cranston, and Giovanni Ribisi having their backs as well. The script is written by ex-police officer, Will Beal. Shooting should begin later this summer.
