A couple of new photos to cap off the evening, both on totally different levels on my anticipation scale. The first is a look at Elle Fanning looking like a zombified geisha on the set of Francis Ford Coppola's goth thriller, Twixt. The director is making his first trip to Comic-Con in like twenty years to present the film, and that panel is promising to be an amazing experience. Coppola is coming loaded for bear with an imaginative show including live music from the film's score by electronic musician Dan Deacon, as well as an interactive portion which will involve the audience dressing up in full costumes. Wicked.
Taking chances seems to be Coppola's primary goal in these later stages of his career. Twixt is a goth murder mystery involving a struggling writer who winds up in a small town and gets caught up in the death of a young girl. He's described the tone as part Gothic horror, part romance, and part personal story. Val Kilmer, Elle Fanning, Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin, and David Paymer are amongst the cast. No word on when this will come out, but hopefully soon.
And then there's Dredd, which if you could measure a film's vitality by the amount of buzz it had, this comic book reboot would be in a coma. With Comic-Con coming up that should change, and maybe this new image will open the floodgates. It's our first really clear look at star Karl Urban(Jonah Hex) as Judge Dredd, bucket helmet and all...
Directed by Pete Travis(Vantage Point), this is set to be more like the hard violent comic book, unlike the abysmal 1995 film led by Sylvester Stallone. That means you shouldn't expect to see much of Urban without his helmet. Judge Dredd is never without his helmet. Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey also star, based on a script by Alex Garland(28 Days Later).
