Trailer Time: The Grandmasters, directed by Wong Kar-Wai

Wong Kar-Wai is looking to make up for My Blueberry Nights(hey I liked it anyway) with The Grandmasters, a sleek action biopic on legendary martial artist Yip Man. Yip Man was the first man to train and teach the style of Wing Chun, and was also one of the trainers of Bruce Lee. You might have heard of that guy. We've already seen a couple of highly fictionalized films loosely based on Yip's life, Ip Man 1 & 2. Based on this trailer, I'm expecting The Grandmasters to be even more fantastical.

The trailer is little more than a minute of intense rain drenched fighting, looking like The Matrix by way of Shaw Brothers. It's actually pretty awesome, and I'm we'll be treated to the film sooner or later. The last we heard of it was back in February when Kar-Wai was shopping it around. A few images were released, a very brief marketing trailer was produced which explained next to nothing. I'm betting that with this butt kicking clip, securing US distribution rights won't be a problem. [Vlicious! via ThePlaylist]

Tony Leung(Lust Caution, Red Cliff) stars as Yip Man, looking pretty damn cool. Zhang Ziyi(House of Flying Daggers), who I don't think we see nearly enough anymore, is featured as well.
