Seriously spooky. Just a few weeks ago a colleague of mine had commented on Aaron Eckhart being the perfect fit to play Dennis Wilson if a Beach Boys biopic ever got off the ground. Either he had inside info I wasn't aware of, or I'm going to start feeding him lotto numbers. Variety reports that Eckhart will indeed play the Beach Boys drummer in a biopic of Wilson's life, titled The Drummer.
Eckhart will exec-produce and star in the indie film from director Randy Miller(Bottle Shock), based on a script by Jody Savin. In addition to playing the lead role, Eckhart will prove his musical chops by recording his own renditions of songs from Wilson's 1977 solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue.
The story will follow the turbulent final six years of Wilson's life, in which he struggled to deal with a growing alcohol abuse problem. Filming is scheduled to begin next year in the late spring or early summer.
