Carey Mulligan to work with The Coen Brothers and Spike Jonze in next two flicks

The more Carey Mulligan, the better. The actress has been not just at the top of my list but everybody's list since 2009's An Education, and the coolest thing about it is that she hasn't let the instant fame go to her head. No stupid crazy haircuts, not a lot of tabloid headlines except for when she was dating her Wall Street 2 co-star Shia Labeouf. And even better she hasn't jumped headlong into mainstream flicks which dull her natural ability. Instead she's appeared in Jim Sheridan's Brothers, Mark Romanek's Never Let Me Go, and Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive. The less said about The Greatest, the better, but one thing is for sure is that she's all about the work, and being with top tier talent. Well then she couldn't have chosen better for her next two gigs.

Variety reports Mulligan has climbed aboard two very high profile films. The first is The Coen Brothers' folk music film, Inside Llewyn Davis, which only recently landed Oscar Isaac(her Drive co-star) in the lead role. Mulligan will likely be the female lead, whatever that entails. Details are still sketchy, but the story will loosely follow that of Dave van Ronk, instrumental to the Greenwich Village folk music scene of the 1960s. Shooting on that should begin in the fall.

And after that she'll go right into the untitled project by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman, their third collaboration after Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. We last wrote about this one back in July when Joaquin Phoenix took over the lead role, but we still have no idea what this potentially crazy film will be about. Does it matter? Those four names are enough to make this a must-see already. Production will hopefully begin next spring.

Speaking of great filmmakers, Mulligan will be seen next next in Steve McQueen's Shame, starring Michael Fassbender. And then next Christmas we'll see her in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby
