While others of her Bridesmaids co-stars have spent their newfound popular capital jumping immediately into similar comedic territory, Kristen Wiig has taken a longer view of the situation. Instead of immediately giving us what we all want in a Bridesmaids sequel, she's instead trying to expand her base a little bit. Her passion project, the indie comedy Imogene, is progressing with Annette Bening co-starring, but that's nothing compared to what she's lined up next.
Wiig is set to co-star alongside Robert De Niro in The Comedian, the long in development film directed by Sean Penn. Based on a script by Jeffery Ross and producer Art Linson, it tells the story of a revered but aging insult comic forced into community service after an altercation with a fan. Wiig will play Harmony woman he meets and turns his life upside down.
The film is being shopped around for distribution now, so no telling when it'll go into high gear, but it could be as soon as next spring. [Deadline]
