Matt Reeves enters The Twilight Zone
Matt Reeves took a lot of flack(some of it deserved) for Cloverfield, his monster/disaster film from a couple of years ago. I dug it, finding it to be an intense chase film with some truly exhilerating moments. He followed that up with a film that earned him a ton of crap before it ever hit theaters, and that was Let Me In, the remake of the much loved Swedish vampire film, Let The Right One In. Reeves shut the critics(and haters) up, as his version was nearly as good as the original. Surprised me too. It was then that I figured Reeves is a director who has to be paid attention to because he's not afraid to piss a few diehard fans off. Now he's about to do it again with a reboot of the classic horror/sci-fi anthology, The Twilight Zone.
Just two weeks ago we learned of Warner Brothers' wishlist of directors to head up the project, which included Michael Bay, Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates, and Rupert Wyatt. Being chosen ahead of talent like that is a sure fire sign that Reeves can be considered in the upper echelon of filmmakers. With his previous two movies, he obviously has an eye for unconventional horrors, so he seems like an obvious choice.
Unlike the 1983 film which featured four short stories by four separate directors, this one will be one single story and one director. The script was written by Jason Rothenberg, and Reeves will likely take a look at it as well. With a summer 2012 shoot being eyed, Reeves will have to push back his planned Frankenstein film, This Dark Endeavor. [Deadline]
