The Sunday Drive: 10/16/11

3. Take Shelter
Michael Shannon plays a small town guy struggling to make ends meet for his wife(Jessica Chastain) and deaf daughter, but as the anxieties mount, he begins seeing visions of what may be the world's destruction. Has he gone crazy? Is it all just a vivid dream? The questions get answered in unexpected ways in this haunting new film from Jeff Nichols(Shotgun Stories).

2. Footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes! Craig Brewer continues to prove why he's the go-to man for musical features, doing the impossible and making Footloose fun and workable in today's age. Newcomer Kenny Wormald stars as a Boston city boy who moves to a small Georgia town where music and dancing has been banned, and decides he's gonna do something about it. Co-starring Julianne Hough, this Footloose is more spirited, and timeless in a way that far surpasses the original.
1. The Ides of March
Corruption runs rampant and destroys even the best of men in George Clooney's star-studded political thriller. Ryan Gosling, Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Maria Tomei, and Paul Giamatti round out this awesome actor's showcase. Best film of the year? If the votes were held today....

DVD Pick of the Week: Horrible Bosses
Colin Farrell as a frumpy, balding, prejudiced ne'er do well? Check. Jennifer Aniston tarting it up as an oversexed dentist molesting her poor assistant? Double check. Horrible Bosses is darn silly, but it's so outlandish that you can't help but get into it. Charlie Day, Jason Bateman, and Jason Sudeikis star as three buddies who do what a lot of us wish we could do, which is put into motion a plan to kill off their domineering bosses. Jamie Foxx, continuing a run of weird supporting turns(the other was in Due Date), steals the show as an alleged hitman with a name too filthy for me to write here.
