Paul Feig won't direct Bridget Jones' Diary 3; search for British director begins
Not going to cry any tears over this one, as the Bridget Jones' Diary flicks are best left on the dusty shelves of lonely women from here to across the pond. Deadline reports that Paul Feig(Bridesmaids) has left the third film in the series, which he had been planning to write and direct. The split with Universal was said to be cool, and the studio is now seeking a British helmer for the film. Seriously, Renee Zellwegger is a friggin' Texan, why did anybody buy into this crap? Ugghhh.
Zellwegger is returning because she has nothing else to do. Her boytoys, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, will return also once a director is found, although with Firth's schedule it's impossible to lock down when this thing will get off the ground.
Feig has enough to do that losing a gig like this means nothing. He's got the comedy Dumb Jock brewing, which should see him working with Judd Apatow, Melissa McCarthy, and possibly Jon Hamm. There's also an unknown remake we've heard rumors of, but nobody knows what the deal is with that yet. The possibility of a Bridesmaids sequel is still out there, but until Kristen Wiig agrees to it don't bet the farm on it happening.
