Shawn Levy attached to direct Pinocchio prequel, The Three Misfortunes of Gepetto

How hot is Shawn Levy right now? Seriously, the guy is being looked at for every major tentpole project out there right now. For obvious reasons, because every film he makes turns into box office gold. The Night at the Museum and Real Steel director has just had another big time project secured specifically for him. Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox have bought Michael Vukadinovich's spec script, The Three Misfortunes of Gepetto, for Levy to direct.

The film would be a prequel to Pinocchio, the story of the wooden marionette and his journey to become a real boy. It'll focus on Gepetto, Pinoccho's fatherly creator, who endures a "life of misfortune, war, and adventure" all to be with his true love, Julia Moon. I'm thinking that doesn't turn out so well. Call it a hunch. This has nothing to do with either the Guillermo Del Toro stop-motion Pinocchio flick, or the live-action one Tim Burton has been circling for at least a year now.

So while I'd rather see the Fables version of Pinocchio brought to the big screen, this still sounds pretty intriguing. Add it to the extensive list of projects Levy has in the works. He's already confirmed for a Real Steel sequel, and should still be directing James Cameron's Fantastic Voyage remake. Next on his list is Frankenstein, featuring a script by Max Landis.
