So...Pete Travis wasn't fired as director of Dredd?
So a couple of days ago word came down that director Pete Travis had been removed from the editing process on Dredd, his relaunch of the famous comic book character. The story went on to state that producer and writer, Alex Garland, had taken over the project and could be seeking a co-directing credit. Well tonight a joint statement has been released by Travis and Garland, which says otherwise. You can check it out below...
"During all stages of the filmmaking, 'Dredd' has been a collaboration between a number of dedicated creative parties. From the outset we decided on an unorthodox collaboration to make the film. This situation has been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, Pete was not fired and remains a central part of the collaboration, and Alex is not seeking a co-director credit. We are all extremely proud of the film we have made, and respectfully suggest that it is judged on viewing when its released next year."
Ok, so I guess that's settled. Rumors like this don't just come out of nowhere, but we really don't have any reason to think they're lying. Case closed. For now. Dredd will presumably still hit theaters on September 21st 2012. [LA Times]
