Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, Sam Elliott, and Brendan Gleeson join The Company You Keep
Robert Redford has never had a problem getting people to star in his movies. It's probably the easiest part of his job, to be honest. Even the bad flicks, like Lions For Lambs, had Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise, and Andrew Garfield. This year's The Conspirator was a crashing bore, but it had no shortage of superstar performers in it. Redford's latest political flick, The Company You Keep, is shaping up to have Redford's strongest cast yet.
Alongside Redford is Shia Labeouf, Brit Marling, Susan Sarandon, Nick Nolte, Julie Christie, Richard Jenkins, Stephen Root, Chris Cooper, and Stanley Tucci. That's just wrong, dude. Who can compete with that? How can there be enough time to let all these folks flex their muscles on screen? It's not possible. And now Redford's gone and made his bench even deeper, adding the likes of Anna Kendrick(Up in the Air), Terrence Howard, Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson(In Bruges), and 11-year old America's Got Talent finalist, Jackie Evancho.
Written by Lem Dobbs(The Limey), the film centers on a former militant activist(Redford) wanted by the FBI for over 30 years, until he's forced to go on the run when an upstart journalist(Labeouf) exposes his identity. Kendrick will play Labeouf's ex, an FBI agent feeding him info on Redford's past crimes. Howard will be the senior FBI agent in charge of bringing Redford down. Evancho will be Redford's daughter, who has no idea of her father's past. If you've ever heard Evancho sing, she has a voice as deep and full as anybody I've ever heard. Makes me wonder if she'll belt out a tune or two in the film.
No release date is set, but it's currently filming in Vancouver. So we should expect to see it some time next year. [Variety]
