The Sunday Drive: 10/9/11

3. Real Steel
Who'd have thunk it? Who'd have thought mixing the boyhood bond of The Iron Giant with the underdog dramatics of Rocky would be a hit? Real Steel features great, realistic special effects and a crowd pleasing story to make for a powerful one-two punch.

2. 50/50
Don't let the words "cancer comedy" drive you away. 50/50 is an honest, heartwarming, and extremely funny film dealing with one man's attempt to live his life while dealing with a disease that may be his death. Joseph Gordon-Levitt continues to prove his versatility as a leading man, perhaps earning his first Best Actor nomination in the process.
1. The Ides of March
The seedy underbelly of the current political system is exposed in The Ides of March, George Clooney's amazing thriller featuring a world-class roster of talent. Ryan Gosling stars as an idealistic campaign wunderkind for a Democratic presidential candidate, dragged down into the mud those willing to do anything to win.

DVD Pick of the Week: Fast Five
Poor Paul Walker. At one point he could stand side-by-side with muscle bound co-star Vin Diesel and feel like a similar force of nature. Now with the addition of Dwayne Johnson into the fold, Walker is reduced back to the pretty boy we always knew he was. Fortunately for him, the Fast and the Furious franchise is more alive and action packed than ever. Fast Five was the highest grossing and arguably best film in the series yet, promising many more opportunities for Walker to get in with the cool kids again.
