Tom Cruise in talks for Doug Liman's film formerly titled All You Need Is Kill

So things are looking up for Doug Liman all of a sudden. After his passion project, Luna, got canned it didn't slow him down for a moment. In fact it only kicked into overdrive development of his adaptation of the manga hit, All You Need Is Kill. Liman soon after signed on to direct the mountain climbing pic, Everest.

But sticking with 'Kill' for now, Warner Brothers wanted Brad Pitt for the lead role in the film, a Source Code-type story about a soldier killed in the first day of a war against alien invaders, but is repeatedly resurrected to the day before his death. THR now reports that Liman has entered talks with another A-lister to star: Tom Cruise.

As if Cruise isn't busy enough. A few years ago the guy was persona non grata and now roles are being thrown at him left and right. Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol is right around the corner. He's currently shooting the jukebox musical Rock of Ages. He'll be partnering up with his running buddy Christopher McQuarrie for a possible franchise in One Shot, and then there's the Joseph Kosinski(Tron: Legacy) sci-fi flick, Oblivion(or whatever it'll be titled). And what's up with that Les Grossman comedy he was going to make? That dead yet?

No word on how far along talks are, but I figure with Cruise's busy schedule it's probably early. One other thing, and I've been waiting for this, but that awful title of All You Need Is Kill is now dead. It's officially known as We Mortals Are. Not much of an improvement, but an improvement nonetheless.
