Sure Shots: Doug Liman; The Fly; The Human Centipede 3

* Just a few days ago we learned that Doug Liman's sci-fi heist film, Luna, had been canned. A sorry fate, which leads to Liman perhaps moving forward with an adaptation of the manga hit, All You Need is Kill. That won't happen for awhile yet, so Liman's filling his schedule with a project that should have him reaching new heights. He'll direct Everest, based on the book Paths of Glory by writer Jeffrey Archer. The story follows George Mallory's three failed attempts to scale Mt. Everest in the 1920s. [Deadline]

* We all love David Cronenberg here at Punch Drunk Critics International. But let's be honest, he's come a long way from the days when he was making weird horror movies like Scanners and Dead Ringers. The most popular of them all is The Fly, which despite a pretty wretched sequel a few years later, is still a cult favorite. Talk of a remake has been percolating for a couple of years now, with Cronenberg reportedly on board to script and direct. Little has been heard of it since until Shocktilyoudrop caught up with Cronenberg, who revealed that he has indeed finished a script for "sort of a sequel". No word on if 20th Century Fox will ever push the project into high gear, but personally I'd rather see Eastern Promises 2.

* While Tom Six's grisly sequel, The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence doesn't hit US theaters until October 17th, the chatty director is already talking up a threequel. He tells ThePlaylist that the third and last film, titled The Human Centipede: Final Sequence, will be shot here in America starting early next year. The script is nearly completed, and he says casting has already begun. Oh joy.
