Sure Shots: Gerard Butler; Oscar Isaac; Django Unchained

* Machine Gun Preacher was a confusing, half hearted attempt to make Gerard Butler more of a dramatic presence, with hopes of a possible Oscar run. It won't happen, trust me.  So now it's time to jump back into a more familiar realm. Butler has entered talks to star in Hunter Killer, an adaptation of George Wallace's novel, Firing Point. Directed by Antoine Fuqua(who took over for Philip Noyce), the film centers on a submarine commander(Butler) who teams up with a team of Navy Seals to rescue a kidnapped Russian president. Sam Worthing is rumored to be in line for the role of the Seal team leader. The question now is if Hunter Killer will maintain it's December 21st 2012 release date. Probably not. Expect a move. * Wanna know how in demand Oscar Isaac is right now? Check out this list of directors he's worked with recently: Nicolas Winding Refn(Drive), Ridley Scott(Robin Hood), Zack Snyder(Sucker Punch), and Madonna(W.E.). Dude is hot right now, and this is before he films The Bourne Legacy with Tony Gilroy. Now you can add the Coen Brothers to that impressive list, as Deadline reports he'll star in their upcoming film centered on the folk music scene, Inside Llewyn Davis. The story will be based in part on the life of Dave Van Ronk, a central figure to the Greenwich Village folk scene during the 1960s.

* The name Tom Savini will mean a lot to horror gurus, familiar with his special effects work on many of George Romero's zombie flicks. But others will recognize Savini's face as he's been a regular feature in the films of Quentin Tarantino(From Dusk Til Dawn), Robert Rodriguez(Machete, Planet Terror), and even Kevin Smith(Zack and Miri). Now Savini finds himself back in the Tarantinoverse, joining his racially charged western, Django Unchained. He'll play Elvis Brittle, one of the three brothers who sells Django(Jamie Foxx) and his wife into slavery.
