Sure Shots: Toby Kebbell; Elisabeth Shue; Ambyr Childers
* Toby Kebbell(Rocknrolla) has joined the cast of The East, the eco-thriller from co-writer and star Brit Marling(Another Earth). Marling stars as a corporate agent infiltrating an eco-terrorist group led by Alexander Skarsgard. Ellen Page will play another member of the group and Skarsgard's ex-girl, while Kibbell is a doctor who suffers from Parkinsons-type symptoms after being treated by a tainted drug. [THR]
* Curtis Hanson's surfing drama has undergone a silly name change. Once titled 'Mavericks', it's now being referred to as 'Of Men and Mavericks', which sounds like a old west documentary. Whatever. The story of late surfing pro Jay Moriarty already has Gerard Butler, Leven Rambin, and Jonny Westin on board. Now THR reports that Elisabeth Shue and Mad Men star Abigail Spencer have joined. Shue will play Moriarty's mom, while Spencer is the wife of Butler's character.
* Ever heard of Ambyr Childers? Yeah, me neither, but if we're going to judge by the quality of her latest gigs she must be the greatest unheard of actress ever. The young star has scored roles in Ruben Fleischer's Gangster Squad, and also Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master. Wow. In The Master, she'll take on the role once being circled by Amanda Seyfried, Deborah Ann Woll, and others. She'll play the daughter of Philip Seymour Hoffman's character, a man who begins a controversial belief system and pulls in other followers. Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Jesse Plemons, David Warshofsky, Laura Dern, Lena Endre, Rami Malek, Madisen Beaty, Josh Close and Fiona Dourif also co-star.
Her role in Gangster Squad is unknown, but does it matter when your co-stars are Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena, and Nick Nolte? I don't think so. The film chronicles the fight between a special unit of the LAPD and the mafia who are spreading their influence throughout the west coast. [Deadline]
