Thor 2, Piranha 3DD, and Pacific Rim all get a release date shuffle

A handful of release date shuffles this morning, so let's just jump right into it, shall we?

With Thor reigning as the undisputed superhero champeen this summer, hauling in nearly $450M, Disney didn't waste any time setting a date for the sequel. Originally planned for July 26th 2013, the film has been bumped four months to November 15th. Why? Who knows? The later months tend to be filled with Oscar bait, and Thor might be in the position for some lucrative counter programming. Sorry, True Believers. There is some good news, though. Patty Jenkins(Monster) has been confirmed to direct the film, after first being rumored for the job last month.

Nobody should be surprised that Piranha 3DD is getting pushed back. The fishy sequel to last year's hit was due to open next month on the 23rd, but we've seen nothing concrete on the film at all. The Jon Gulager(Feast) directed flick will now open some time next year. That's all we know.

And finally some seriously good news as it's been far too long since we've seen Guillermo Del Toro direct anything. Pacific Rim, his big budget spectacle chronicling a futuristic war between humans and giant monsters, has been moved up by two months to the new date of May 10th 2013. Want to know what else is coming out that same month? The Lone Ranger, with Johnny Depp. The next Fast and the Furious. Oh, and a little thing called Iron Man 3. Way to make it easy, Warner Brothers! Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., and Max Martini will star.
