Marcus Nispel to direct adaptation of horror comic, 'Hack/Slash'
Marcus Nispel has had a number of opportunities directing some popular franchises, and for the most part I'd say he's flushed them all down the crapper. Last year saw him take on Conan the Barbarian and somehow made Arnold Schwarzenegger's films look like masterpieces. He's also flubbed a Friday the 13th "remake", and despite gaining fame for his version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, most found it to be sorely lacking. Now he's taking on yet another property with a rabid fanbase, and if he screws this up we may not be hearing from Nispel for awhile. Call it a hunch.
THR reports he'll be the man to tackle the long in development live-action adaptation of Hack/Slash, Tim Seely's awesome horror comic published by Image Comics since 2004. The story centers on Cassandra "Cassie" Hack, a girl who Seely once described as being like the lone girl who always manages to survive horror movies, only now she's overcome her fears and decided to get revenge. Cassie pairs up with Vlad, a hulkish, disfigured man in a gas mask, to hunt down and kill "slashers", beings(both undead and alive) who kill innocents out of anger and rage.
They've been talking about a Hack/Slash movie at least since 2006, and a number of people have been attached to direct it at one point or another, but this looks to be the best chance to actually get it off the ground. The comic has been adapted before into a stageplay, and the Cassie character in particular has grown in popularity, especially amongst the goth set. The Suicide Girls modeling group consider Cassie to be an official member. Maybe one of them can play her in the movie? Or how about Megan Fox? I remember way back in 2007 there was talk she was first in line for the role, and I bet she'd still be interested. Personally I'd kill to see it be Kat Dennings.
