We already knew from a couple months ago that a probably ill-advised remake of Starship Troopers was in the works, written by X-men: First Class scribes Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz. Did you also know there was a computer animated continuation of the world created in Robert Heinlen's original novel and expanded upon in three feature films? Titled Starship Troopers: Invasion, the story focuses on two teams of Roughnecks, the elite military soldiers battling the alien "bugs" who are trying to wipe out humanity.
The first image from the film has been released, featuring the character Major Henry Varro, the commander of a unit out of Fort Casey, but arrested for insubordination and imprisoned aboard ship headed back to earth where he'll be court martialed. Despite his crime, he retains the respect and admiration of all who served under him.
Shinji Aramaki(Appleseed) is directing, with plans for the film to be released this summer.
