Legendary Pictures pulls the plug on 'Paradise Lost'
Who the heck thought a big budget, 3D adaptation of Paradise Lost was a good idea, anyway? Legendary Pictures did for awhile, with Alex Proyas set to direct the massive project, which promised huge, sprawling mo-capped aerial battles in the Heavens. Costing well over $120M , and requiring nearly two years of production, the film always seemed a touch too ambitious, especially with studios cutting corners at an alarming rate. Late last year, Legendary put the project on hold while the budget was ironed out, but it appeared the film would still take place. Well scratch that idea, as Variety reports the plug has been pulled once and for all.
Deadline has a different spin, saying that Legendary never actually greenlit it to begin with. The result is the same either way, and now Paradise Lost can be added to the laundry list of massive productions shut down due to exploding costs. Bradley Cooper, Benjamin Walker, Djimon Hounsou, Casey Affleck, Dominic Purcell, Camilla Belle, Diego Boneta, and Callan McAuliffe had been set to star.
