Check out the trailer for Kevin MacDonald's Bob Marley documentary
I'll be perfectly honest in saying that I don't see the need for another Bob Marley documentary. His story has been told many times, of the legendary reggae musician whose poster hangs in the home of your smoked out buddy and that dude down the street who fancies himself a Rasta. For whatever reason, this particular documentary has captured the attention of a lot of folks, promising to be the most comprehensive look at his life yet. Now that the UK trailer for Marley has been released, to me it just appears to be more of the same.
Directed by Kevin MacDonald(The Last King of Scotland), who took over for Jonathan Demme(The Silence of the Lambs) on the long gestating project, the film clocks in at over 2 1/2 hours of footage following Marley's career to his untimely, controversial death in 1981. I'm not seeing anything new that makes me think this film is a big deal, but maybe somebody more in tune with Marley's music and life outlook will feel differently. When does the film open? On 4/20 of course....
