'Machete Kills' to begin filming in April; Danny Trejo expected to return of course!

Ohhhh the mixed emotions! At this point I've just about given up on any hope that we'll get a sequel to Sin City. Robert Rodriguez keeps dangling it in front of us like a Twinkie in front of a fat kid on a treadmill, with the last update positing a spring 2012 start date. Well forget that now, because that's when Rodriguez will be busy with another hotly awaited sequel, Machete Kills!

At the end of Machete, we were promised two films, Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again, and Rodriguez all but swore we'd see them both. The sequel was greenlit not long after, and now here we are with a start date planned for April. The script by Kyle Ward and Marcel Rodriguez is already in place, and this one promises more of the grindhouse aesthetic that we've come to expect, although it's funny to think that the super violent, bloodthirsty Machete actually debuted in Spy Kids.

So what's the story this time around? What will be the grand injustice that drives Machete to slaughter endlessly? Outer space. Or more accurately, a satellite weapon being launched into space by a cartel leader, with Machete hired by the US government to take him down. You can bet your ass this will somehow lead to Machete being trapped on a space station leading into the third film, now titled Machete Kills Again in Space, for which we should also get a cool retro trailer. Most of the cast is expected to return, at least the ones who survived. Hopefully that includes Lindsay Lohan so we can see her looking spaced out and high in her nun habit again. [Deadline]
