After what was an uneven 2011 for Mia Wasikowska(with Restless, Jane Eyre, and Albert Nobbs), she's looking to make some serious headway this year. She'll star in Stoker, the English language debut of South Korean director Park Chan-Wook, and is a part of the amazing ensemble gathered for John Hillcoat's The Wettest County.
That's just a part of it, as she'll join Jesse Eisenberg in The Double, from Submarine director Richard Ayoade. Not to be confused with the terrible Richard Gere/Topher Grace flick, this is based in part on the novella by Fyodor Dostoyevski. The Gogolesque story follows an introverted bureaucrat who continually encounters his doppelganger, who just so happens to be far more confident and and aggressive. As his humanity and dignity are repeatedly steamrolled by this double, his sanity begins to crack. Sounds perfect for Jesse Eisenberg, who will be tackling the lead role, as all of his characters seem to be struggling internally over something. Ayoade co-wrote the script with Avi Korine, brother to Harmony Korine's brother.
Wasikowska's role isn't clear yet, but she and Eisenberg look like a happy pair, don't they? She'll probably turn out to be some sort of love interest. With production hopefully to begin the spring, we might not have to wait too long to see how this turns out. [Screen Daily]
