Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn reteaming for 'Interns'; Shawn Levy to direct

It's been nearly seven years since Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn crashed their last party, and while talk of a sequel to Wedding Crashers has long since faded, the two remain one of the most sought after comedic pairings. That might explain why 20th Century Fox was so quick to jump on Interns, a new comedy written by Vaughn and looking to be directed by Shawn Levy(Real Steel).

Vulture says the film will feature Vaughn and Wilson as a pair of 40-ish company guys who are laid off in a downsizing, and thinking they've managed their careers all wrong, decided to take entry level positions at a Google-esque dotcom. There they find themselves squaring off with ambitious 22 year olds for career advancement, where hilarity will no doubt ensue.

So how did a movie this big come together so rapidly? Turns out it was a pretty complicated process. Levy was set to make his Frankenstein film for Fox, but they apparently didn't like the reported $80M budget, throwing it into question. Vaughn had been set to star in The Insane Laws, from the writer of The Break-Up, but that fell apart over budgeting as well, mainly that Vaughn wouldn't cut his fee. So Universal canned that film, along with putting Interns in turnaround, meaning any other studio could scoop it up. Fox jumped at the chance when both Vaughn and Levy, who had just worked together on Neighborhood Watch, suddenly became available.

So with the old vs. young theme running through Interns, it sounds an awful lot like a quasi-Old School sequel, doesn't it? With Vaughn, Wilson, and Levy involved you just know we're going to get some cameos by their celebrity buds, so don't be surprised if Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller's names are attached at some point.
