'Rambo 5' is apparently not dead; film could be a passing of the torch

It's been a long time since we heard anything about Rambo 5, and considering it's shaky beginnings there was probably a good chance the whole idea had suffered a quiet death. However, with 2008's Rambo scoring well over $100M worldwide, Lionsgate wasn't about to let Sylvester Stallone's long suffering war veteran go so easily. The film is still happening, and after first being rumored as a science-fiction style effort with Rambo battling amped up super soldiers or something, the story eventually went back to it's more traditional roots. We haven't heard much about it since, and writer Sean Hood recently took to Twitter to reveal why....

Hood:Rambo 5 on hold as Sly finishes Expendables 2. He hasn’t decided if R5 will be an Unforgiven or a “passing of the torch.”

Passing of the torch? Are we talkin' Son of Rambow here? Um, no. There is no Rambo without Stallone, so if this film even happens expect it to have some sort of ambiguous conclusion or we may see the old soldier forcibly removed from his eternal war.

Here's the thing, Stallone is 65 years old. He's old and brittle as all hell. Need proof? Take a look at where he and fellow geriatric Arnold Schwarzenegger turned up after filming The Expendables 2....
Yeah, with an IV drip and eating apple sauce out of a straw while waiting for surgery. Stallone also has The Tomb lined up for later this year alongside Schwarzenegger, so the soonest a Rambo 5 could get underway is some time in 2013. A couple of years ago, Stallone thought Rambo's story was officially done. His body may have been telling him to back off even then, so it's probably screaming for mercy now.
