Sure Shots: Adam Scott; Michael Mann; Jane Lynch
* It seemed like a terrible idea, remaking the 1947 Danny Kaye classic, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, with Ben Stiller in the title role and making his first directorial effort since Tropic Thunder. A top notch cast has slowly changed my mind on the idea, with Shirley MacLaine, Kristen Wiig, and Patton Oswalt joining in just the last couple of weeks. Now you can add another solid comedic star to the mix, with Adam Scott(Party Down, Parks & Recreation) the latest to come aboard. His role is unclear, but we know the story follows a sad sack magazine photo manager, who escapes into his amazing daydreams to avoid his boring life. Filming begins in April, so we may see this one by the end of the year or early 2013. [Deadline]
* Michael Mann's been away from the big screen for a few years, not having directed a film since Public Enemies. He hasn't exactly been sitting on his hands, though, as he's found immediate success with the HBO series, Luck, picked up for a second season after like one episode. Not too shabby. However he's still first and foremost a movie director, and he's currently in talks to possibly direct cop thriller The Big Stone Grid. Described as Seven meets Marathon Man, the story follows two New York detectives who uncover a terrible extortion ring in the city's secret underbelly. S. Craig Zahler wrote the script, with Mann to take a pass at it before deciding if he'll direct. [Deadline]
* It's like a pre-Party Down movie reunion! Jane Lynch, who has been wasting away on Glee the last couple of years, will join her old colleague Adam Scott in the comedy, A.C.O.D. Richard Jenkins(The Visitor) joins them in the story of a man who never got over the divorce of his parents, but is forced to get them together again when his brother gets engaged. Lynch will play Dr. Judith, a struggling author and therapist who used to treat the lead character. Stuart Zicherman(Lights Out) co-wrote and will direct. With that much comedy strength behind it, this is a film definitely needing to be kept an eye on.
