Trailer Time: 'The Bourne Legacy', starring Jeremy Renner

"He's Treadstone without the inconsistency". If there is a central theme to the first trailer for The Bourne Legacy, it's to establish Jeremy Renner as an even more unstoppable force of nature than his predecessor, Matt Damon.  If that was the goal of series scribe and director Tony Gilroy, he's done a pretty good job of making his point.

Renner plays Aaron Cross, another soldier/experiment from a murky government organization, and at some point you'd think they'd just quit since all of their creations just wind up turning on them. Gilroy, who wrote scripts for the first three Bourne movies, clearly has the tone of the Bourne universe down pat, but his directing style is much smoother and less gritty than that of Paul Greengrass. Some of that is reflected here, with the sliding bars and clear focus on the superb cast. There isn't a whole lot of action to speak of, but then again the Bourne franchise has never been about extraneous violence.

Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz,Oscar Isaac, and Stacy Keach join the returning Joan Allen, Albert Finney, and David Straithairn to co-star. The Bourne Legacy opens on August 3rd....
