So what's the deal this time? We know that Terrence Malick is prepping two films to shoot this year. One is Knight of Cups, while the other is Lawless, set amidst the music industry scene and reportedly some sort of love triangle. Like we saw him do last year at the Austin City Limits festival, Malick was on hand at SXSW shooting scenes for Lawless, these featuring Rooney Mara alongside Alan Palomo from Neon Indian.
The question I have is whether this is more pre-production stuff or actual footage? It seems like the latter would be more likely at this stage, but you never really can tell what the notoriously secretive director is doing at any given moment. It seems plausible he'd take advantage of the natural atmosphere the festivals provide to save a few bucks while adding a level of authenticity.
With Ryan Gosling currently shooting Only God Forgives with his right hand man, Nicolas Winding Refn, he's not likely anywhere in sight, but maybe the rest of the cast is on hand?
