'Project X' star Thomas Mann is the 'King Dork' for Will Ferrell and Adam McKay

In some ways, Project X could be considered a throwback to the wild teen party movies of the 1980s, although much more disturbing and insane. The low budget film's stars have banked their success into a handful of roles into bigger productions, with Thomas Mann perhaps doing the best of the bunch. Not only has he lined up roles in the teen comedy, Fun Size, and the upcoming adaptation of Beautiful Creatures, he'll now get a chance to visit the acid washed era and work with comedy heavyweights Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Ferrell and McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions have lined up Mann to star in King Dork, an adaptation of Frank Portman's 2006 novel. Mann will play Tom, with his It's Kind of a Funny Story co-star Keir Gilchrist circling the role of Sam, in the 1987 set story of two high school friends who in the wake of reading The Catcher in the Rye, find themselves at the center of numerous conspiracies involving rock & roll, The Bible, dead people, naked people, and other strange things.

Casa de mi Padre director, Matt Piedmont ,will direct, with that film's co-star Nick Offerman(Parks & Recreation) in talks for the role of Tom's stepad. The script comes from D.V. DeVincentis(High Fidelity). [Variety]
