Robert Rodriguez says 'Sin City 2' and 'Machete Kills' will film this year; Do we believe him?
Robert Rodriguez is nothing if not an enthusiastic, innovative film maker, so much so that he's constantly adding new projects to undertake that put his creativity to the test. The side effect is that some of the stuff his most ardent supporters have been waiting years for keep getting pushed into the background. Like say....oh, Sin City 2? Since the first film came out in 2005, fans have been anxiously awaiting a sequel to the black and white pulp thriller, with production seemingly always around the corner. On more than one occasion Rodriguez has said the sequel was next on his list, but something always got in the way.
So as Rodriguez made his annual stop at SXSW to talk about his upcoming projects, it's hard to take him seriously when he says that Sin City 2 will begin production this summer. Not only that, but he confirmed that filming on Machete Kills will take place in April, as was revealed just last month.
Assuming the Sin City stuff actually does happen, it'll be interesting to see which of the large and uniquely assembled cast will return. Last October it was hinted by Sin City creator Frank Miller that Mickey Rourke would be back as Marv, and Jessica Alba as Nancy Callahan. The film would mostly be an adaptation of A Dame to Kill For, along with the short story Just Another Saturday Night. Miller also came up with two brand new stories that would be woven in, similar to how the first film was structured. Rodriguez has said negotiations are underway with a number of potential stars, and that the cast would be "of the same caliber and eclecticism" as before. [THR]
