Fans are still pissed over the idea of their beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hailing from an alien world in their next live-action flick, and apparently when they haven't been raking Michael Bay over the tiger spikes over it, they've been pleading to Peter Laird to do something about it. Laird, along with Kevin Eastman, created the Turtles way back in 1984, but he sold off his half of the rights years ago. He recently took to his blog to remind fans of that, and basically to do what Bay says and just relax...
Laird: "I have had several requests from TMNT fans during this past week to comment on the idea of the Turtles being "reimagined" as aliens for the upcoming TMNT movie to be produced by Michael Bay. A few people -- who don't seem to understand that I am no longer in control of the property -- want me to stop this, somehow. Obviously, I can't do that, even if I wanted to.
So he recognizes that the idea kinda sucks, but since we can't do anything about it why not hope for the best? That's pretty much the same conclusion I came to the other day. After initially being angry over it, I realized it wasn't worth it. Besides, it's not as if the Turtles don't have a connection to outer space adventures already. Remember Krang? There could be a good story told using Krang and involving the Turtles' true origins.
I highly suggest you check out the entirety of Laird's writing on the subject, as he goes into some interesting detail on past story ideas for other live-action TMNT movies, including talk of adding even more turtles to the family.
